Svatopluk Klimeš: Only the Wind Spirits Know What Awaits Me Around the Bend of the Road. Drawings from 1979–2025
The exhibition of drawings by Svatopluk Klimeš is based on the fact that for this artist the medium of drawing is a permanent and important part of his work. The exhibition will combine works from different periods, which is possible in Klimeš’s work. The works will be arranged in several blocks, adjusted to the various spaces of the exhibition hall.
The cycles selected for the exhibition highlight the important period of the late 1970s and 1980s, the materially diverse theme of Journeys, and the expressive works of recent years (Baudelaire, Wetlands, Haiku).
In the section The Turn of the 1980s, the Maps cycle (drawings on millimetre paper) and the cycles Uncovering the Window and the Landscape, Greenhouse and Mutějovice Hop Garden (photographs and works on paper combining drawing and space) are presented.
The following section, entitled Journeys, includes the cycles In the Sea (burnt drawings on artist’s paper), Journeys (drawings + small records), Vanitas (burnt frottages), a column of fire drawings on wafers (Venice) and light-boxes.
The last section comprises expressive drawings entitled Baudelaire in the form of a projection (browsing through an album of drawings on a display), Wetlands (drawings) and Haiku (the Klimeš – Melich project).
In addition to works from the artist’s own collection, the exhibition features works by Klimeš on loan from several institutions, including the Moravian Gallery in Brno and the Regional Gallery in Liberec.
